Low Noise

No Drones or Pets
Stay on the Trail

Elliston offers a rare window into the life of the Atlantic Puffin, providing one of the few places on Earth where these birds can be observed from land without a boat. While the ocean channel offers a natural barrier, the health of the colony depends on the atmosphere we create on the mainland. True conservation at this site is an act of stewardship. Puffins will not feel threatened if you are quiet and maintain a respectful distance. When the birds are comfortable with your presence, they may even approach you out of curiosity. If they do please remain still and do not attempt to touch them.

Our stewardship efforts are not merely suggestions; they are rooted in the 2023 Atlantic Puffin Site Management Plan. Research shows that the birds roosting at our viewing site are the most vulnerable to human activity. By choosing to be a Guardian of the Rock, you are directly supporting a science based roadmap designed to ensure this colony thrives for generations to come.

Loud noises can startle birds causing them to panic and fly off. This uses up valuable energy required for survival.

Help us keep this a "no-stress" zone. Drones and dogs can panic the puffins, so please leave them behind while visiting the site.

The habitat here is fragile. Stay on the marked paths to prevent erosion and protect the landscape. Please don't uproot plants.

The puffins roosting here are resting. Please keep a respect the buffer zone so they feel safe enough to stay on the mainland.
